Dual Credit Options
Dual Enrollment/Credit courses permit eligible students to take a specific class or classes during their high school years and simultaneously earn credit at both the high school and college level. These courses can play a strong role in helping students graduate from high school, successfully transition into a college or technical school program, and reduce the amount of time and cost to complete their college degree requirements.
Kaukauna High School offers dual credit courses in a number of different formats:
- Advanced Placement (AP) Program
- Cooperative Academic Partnership Program (CAPP) Courses
- Courses Offered in Cooperation with Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC)
For additional information in a format you can print and carry with you, check out the KHS Dual Credit Opportunities Printable brochure.
Career and Technical Education
Kaukauna High School is home to some of the best Career and Technical Education programs in the state of Wisconsin. The classes offered at KHS provide students with the opportunity to connect with other students, staff and the greater Kaukauna community, while preparing students for the next stages of life - in whichever path they choose.
Career Pathways
At Kaukauna High School, future occupations and careers that share common skills, knowledge and interests have been "clustered" into six potential career pathways:
Xello
This engaging software program allows students in grades 5-12 to build the skills, knowledge and plans for success after high school. Students will build self-awareness, explore potential career choices and help students create a personalized, attainable post-secondary plan. To access, please use the Xello Student Link.
Independent Study
The Independent Study Program provides an opportunity for grade 11 or 12 students to obtain academic credit for learning acquired through individualized programs of study under the guidance of a teacher.
An independent study is equivalent to a regular trimester course. A minimum of 70 hours must be documented and all course work must be completed in the time frame of the trimester. It is always the right of the teacher to determine whether or not he/she will advise such a program. Applications must be completed by the first week of classes each trimester and turned into the administrator overseeing independent study. Approval meetings need to occur the second week of classes.
Evaluation of the student is the responsibility of the advising teacher. However, the student must present a summary of the work completed to administration (prior to the last week of each trimester) for final review. The final grade will be recorded on the student’s transcript. The teacher will determine the grade.
Work and Community-Based Learning
he best way to learn about potential careers and to open doors to new and exciting job opportunities is to take advantage of career and service learning opportunities during high school. Now is the time to develop a network of local business professionals, to improve your skills, and to obtain hands-on, industry experience, all while making a positive impact on your community. Kaukauna High School offers a number of different Work and Career-Based Learning Opportunities, along with a number of Service and Leadership Opportunities that help students understand how their work can lead them to be active, successful contributors to their community.
Early College Credit Programs
A student in grades 9 through 12 attending a public school or a private school in the state will be permitted to enroll in a UW System institution, or a private, non-profit institution of higher education, to take one or more courses, for which the student may earn high school credit, post-secondary credit, or both. (See WI Statute 118.55 Early college credit program for more information.)
The technical colleges are not included in the ECCP; however, high school students will continue to be able to enroll in courses offered by a technical college through the “Start College Now” program. Other stipulations apply to this program. (See WI Statute 38.12(14) “Start College Now” for more information.)
In addition, through Part-time Open Enrollment, a pupil enrolled in a public school in the high school grades may attend public school in a nonresident school district (under this section) for the purpose of taking a course offered by the nonresident school district. A pupil may attend no more than 2 courses at any time in nonresident school districts (under this section). (See WI Statute 118.52 Part-time open enrollment for more information.)
Any student interested in the Early College Credit Program, Part-time Open Enrollment option, or the “Start College Now” program should make an appointment to see his/her school counselor for additional information and details including forms, processes, and timelines. Please know that March 1 is the application deadline for Semester 1, and October 1 is the application deadline for Semester 2.
